Your TGC Executive Board is pleased to share additional plans for the October annual Conference through the Fall issue of the newsletter. Please register to attend today. Guests are welcome, so please feel free to invite those you feel may be interested.
The dates for the Texas Genealogical College 2019 annual meeting are Friday and Saturday, October 25 and 26, at the Hilton Garden Inn in historic downtown Granbury, TX. Granbury, which was recently named the ‘best small historic town in the nation’ in the 2019 USA Today Reader’s Choice poll [Mackinac Island, MI was number 2, so the competition was fierce], features a historic square ringed with landmark buildings, local shops and restaurants as well as a lake-front location.
The TGC 2019 Hall of Fame Awardees will be inducted at the Friday evening banquet, under the leadership of Chair Lynn Young. Award nominations are due to Mrs. Young by September 1, 2019.
Maureen McGowan-Singer, author, scholar and noted speaker on heraldry will be a featured presenter for Saturday’s genealogical workshop. Mrs. McGowan-Singer will share information on how to identify and research our armorial ancestors. TGC Chaplain Robert Todd Giffin was awarded his own personal coat of arms in 2013 – he will share anecdotes from his application experience, as well as, his subsequent work with an armorial artist to create a pictorial representation of those arms.
In the last issue, we told you about the NARA Records Online workshop which will be presented by Jenny McMillen Sweeney, Education Specialist from the National Archives at Fort Worth. Morgan Elliott, immediate past national chair o the NSDAR Lineage Research Committee rounds out our workshop schedule with a special session on research tips for Virginia records.
I’m looking forward to seeing you in Granbury in October!

Congratulations to 2017-2018 TGC President Pamela Wright, on a very productive term of office. Under the leadership of Mrs. Wright, the Texas Genealogical College increased membership by 23 percent during the 2017-2018 year, and attendance for the 2018 annual meeting and workshop by 31 percent.
The TGC website was significantly enhanced with a fresh new look and useful information for members and the heritage society community alike.
A TGC FaceBook group was launched, which achieved almost 100 members in short order; providing up-to-date information for members as well as potential members on a timely basis while providing a forum for member interaction.
A very professional and comprehensive directory of members was published.
The annual conference was fabulous, with excellent speakers and a terrific venue. And, five very worthy members of the lineage/heritage/genealogical society community were recognized with Hall of Fame awards at the annual banquet.
Thank you to Mrs. Wright for serving the College as President during this past year and for her extra efforts to ensure the growth and professionalism of the Texas Genealogical College. I look forward to serving the College in a new role and will strive to follow Mrs. Wright’s excellent example with continued growth of the organization and service for its members. Thank you to the members of TGC for this additional opportunity to serve.
A conference committee has already begun planning for the 2019 annual meeting and workshop. Preliminary plans have been reviewed and approved by the Executive Board. Please save the dates of October 25 and 26, 2019.
We are currently in negotiation with hotels in Granbury, Texas, which have the dates available, and are the perfect size to accommodate our organization with easy access, and convenient parking. For those not familiar with Granbury, it is a lovely excursion destination community located southwest of Fort Worth. Granbury offers several museums, numerous historic properties, restaurants and unique shops. As plans are finalized with the hotel and speakers, we will distribute registration and agenda information. In the meantime, please plan to join us for the next Texas Genealogical College meeting, on October 25 and 26 in Granbury.
P.S. Please invite a friend [or friends] from the lineage, heritage and/or genealogical society community to join TGC today!
